What I can do

The Five Pillars of Teaching and Learning at Outwood Grange Academies Trust are key elements that underpin effective teaching and learning. These five pillars are:

1. **Clarity of Learning Intentions**: Teachers clearly share with students what they are learning in their lesson and why they are learning it. They also share and review subject learning journeys with their students【4:0†source】.

2. **Re-cap and Recall**: Teachers regularly revisit prior learning to ensure students remember key information from previous lessons【4:8†source】.

3. **New Information**: Teachers clearly introduce and model new learning in lessons. They link this to the topic question shared with students at the start of their lesson, with a variety of activities devised to help students develop their new understanding【4:8†source】.

4. **Practice**: Teachers create regular opportunities for students to practice, apply, and consolidate their understanding during the lesson. This can involve answering exam questions, solving problems, carrying out experiments, writing essays, or performing skills in a practical subject【4:8†source】.

5. **Feedback**: Teachers provide regular, timely feedback both during lessons and through written feedback. This feedback focuses on how well students are doing, addresses misconceptions, and gives clear guidance on how to improve. Students are encouraged to engage with all feedback in dedicated Student Response Time (SRT) activities【4:8†source】.

These principles guide the planning and delivery of lessons, encouraging students to be active participants in their learning【4:0†source】.
