What I can do
The Five Pillars of Teaching and Learning from Outwood Grange Academies Trust are designed to enhance effective teaching and support students' learning and self-regulation. These pillars are:
1. **Clarity of Learning Intentions**: Teachers clearly communicate what students are learning and why it matters. They also share and review the subject's learning journeys with the students.
2. **Re-cap and Recall**: This involves regularly revisiting prior learning to ensure students retain key information from previous lessons.
3. **New Information**: Introduction and modeling of new learning are conducted with clarity, linked to the topic question presented at the start of the lesson. Activities are devised to help students develop their new understanding.
4. **Practice**: This involves regular opportunities to practice, apply, and consolidate the new knowledge or skills. Activities can range from answering exam questions, solving problems, conducting experiments, writing essays, to performing skills in practical subjects.
5. **Feedback**: Regular, timely feedback is given both during lessons and through written feedback. This feedback focuses on students' performance, addresses misconceptions, and provides guidance on further development. Students are encouraged to engage with all feedback in dedicated Student Response Time (SRT) activities【4:0†source】.
