What I can do

The Five Pillars of Teaching and Learning approach at Outwood Grange Academies Trust consists of the following elements:

1. **Clarity of Learning Intentions**: Teachers clearly share with students what they are learning in their lesson and why they are learning it. They also share and review subject learning journeys【4:0†source】.

2. **Re-cap and Recall**: Teachers regularly revisit prior learning to ensure students remember key information from previous lessons【4:8†source】.

3. **New Information**: Teachers introduce and model new learning in lessons, aligning them with the topic questions shared at the start. A variety of activities are used to develop students’ new understanding【4:8†source】.

4. **Practice**: Teachers provide regular opportunities for students to practice, apply, and consolidate their understanding during lessons. This might involve answering exam questions, solving problems, completing experiments, writing essays, or performing skills in practical subjects【4:8†source】.

5. **Feedback**: Teachers provide regular, timely feedback during and after lessons. This feedback focuses on student performance, addresses misconceptions, and gives guidance on improvement. Students engage with feedback through dedicated Student Response Time (SRT) activities【4:8†source】.

Using these pillars, you can create structured lesson plans that enhance effective teaching and help support students’ learning and self-regulation.
