What I can do

The "Five Pillars of Teaching and Learning" from Outwood Grange Academies Trust focus on enhancing effective teaching and supporting students’ learning and self-regulation. These five pillars are as follows:

1. **Clarity of Learning Intentions**: Teachers clearly share with students what they are learning in their lesson and why they are learning it. This includes sharing and reviewing subject learning journeys with students.

2. **Re-cap and Recall**: Teachers regularly go back over prior learning to ensure students remember key information from previous lessons.

3. **New Information**: Teachers clearly introduce and model new learning in lessons, linked to the topic question shared with students at the start of their lesson. A variety of activities are devised to enable students to develop their new understanding.

4. **Practice**: Teachers create regular opportunities for students to practice, apply, and consolidate their understanding during the lesson. This may include activities like answering exam questions, solving problems, carrying out experiments, writing essays, or performing a skill in a practical subject.

5. **Feedback**: Teachers provide regular timely feedback both during lessons and through written feedback, focusing on how well students are doing, addressing misconceptions, and providing clear guidance on how to develop further. Students are encouraged to engage with all feedback in dedicated Student Response Time (SRT) activities【4:8†source】.
