What I can do

The five pillars of teaching and learning, as implemented by Outwood Grange Academies Trust, provide a structured approach to enhancing effective teaching and supporting students' learning and self-regulation. The pillars are:

1. **Clarity of Learning Intentions**: Teachers explicitly share what students will learn and why, including reviewing the subject's learning journeys with their students. This ensures that students have a clear understanding of the objectives of their lessons.

2. **Re-cap and Recall**: Regular revisiting of prior learning to reinforce memory of key concepts from past lessons. This helps students retain and integrate new knowledge more effectively.

3. **New Information**: Teachers introduce new content clearly, using a variety of activities to help students develop a deeper understanding. This step involves modeling new knowledge and linking it to the lesson's overarching topic question.

4. **Practice**: Providing opportunities for students to apply and consolidate their new knowledge and skills. This practice can include answering exam questions, solving problems, conducting experiments, or performing practical skills relevant to the subject matter.

5. **Feedback**: Offering timely feedback to students both during lessons and through written comments. Feedback aims to highlight students' progress, correct misconceptions, and provide clear advice on how to improve further. Students are encouraged to engage with all feedback through dedicated Student Response Time (SRT) activities【4:0†source】.
